Project Profile:

Each year we have undertaken a growing number of RSS applications for farmers. In 2004/05 we completed over 40 applications with a combined value of nearly £1.3million.  Through the RSS scheme farmers can obtain both revenue and capital payments for undertaking activities which will enhance the wildlife and biodiversity value of their farms.  There are 34 management operations which can be selected including hedgerow management, management of mown grassland for birds, creation of species rich grassland and grass margins.  In addition to this, 18 separate capital payments are available for activities including erection of stock fencing, native tree planting, pond creation and dyke restoration.
